Countdown Begins: University of Cumbria Summer Graduation Ceremonies
The University of Cumbria will welcome an estimated 5,000 visitors to Carlisle this month as it celebrates its Summer Graduation Ceremonies 2025.
The university’s graduation ceremonies are set to take place from Tuesday 15 July to Thursday 17 July at Carlisle Cathedral with three ceremonies scheduled each day.
Graduates from across the university’s four academic institutes – Education Arts and Society; Health; Science and Environment; and Business, Industry, and Leadership – will come together in the city to mark this significant milestone in their academic and professional journey to date.
As well as studying at the university’s campuses in Carlisle, Ambleside, Lancaster and London, many of the Class of 2025 have completed their programmes via distance learning, whilst in employment, or as students through international and partner colleges.
In addition to this year’s graduates, the university is also set to confer an Honorary Fellowship upon London headteacher Amanda Wilson in recognition of her outstanding contributions to teacher education, leadership and role modelling. Amy Walker, head of strategy and capital programme at Tullie, will receive the Alumnus of the Year award for their achievements and impact on our region and beyond since graduating from university in 2001.

Graduation celebrations are a powerful expression of the university’s mission—bringing together people, place and partnership to mark the achievements of students and the impact they will go on to make in the world.
With bold developments including the transformational Carlisle Citadels project, new Barrow campus, establishment of the University of Cumbria International College and the new Pears Cumbria School of Medicine, the university continues to invest in the future of education, health and innovation across the region and beyond.
Carlisle will once again play host to the university’s largest annual celebration. With its stunning architecture, shops, hospitality, green spaces and welcoming atmosphere, the city provides a memorable backdrop for graduates and their guests. From exploring Carlisle Castle, Tullie, Hadrian’s Wall and Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life to enjoying local hospitality, there’s plenty for visitors to experience during their stay.
Vice Chancellor, Professor Julie Mennell DL, said:
“Graduation is a moment of celebration, reflection and pride—for our students, and the families, friends and supporters who have stood beside them.
“We look forward to celebrating each and every one of our newest graduates here in Carlisle and recognising their considerable achievements and impact to date.
“We know the city will give them a warm welcome, adding to a great experience they can look back on for many years to come. The University of Cumbria looks forward to celebrating the achievements of its students and welcoming them into its global alumni community of 77,000.”
