New appointment at University of Cumbria's respected Institute of Health

Experienced nursing, clinical research and leadership figure to support university’s health workforce partnerships. 

The University of Cumbria is proud to announce the appointment of Dr Fiona Chatten as the new Director of Health and Wellbeing within its respected Institute of Health. 

Dr Chatten brings a wealth of experience to the role, with a distinguished background in nursing, clinical research and senior leadership across the NHS. A specialist in district nursing, she holds an MSc in Clinical Research and a PhD focused on professional identity in integration. Her career has been defined by a deep commitment to empowering professionals and fostering a strong sense of belonging within multi-professional teams. 

In her new role, Dr Chatten will lead the Directorate of Health and Wellbeing, which encompasses nursing, midwifery, psychology and psychological therapies, sport, social work and children and families’ academic subject groups. She will play a pivotal role in shaping the quality and delivery of the university’s health provision and programmes, enhancing the student experience and developing partnerships locally, nationally and internationally.

Dr Chatten said:

The ambition and vision of the university is inspiring, and I look forward to contributing to its delivery. I am strongly committed to collaborating with colleagues, students and partners, within Cumbria and beyond, to provide dynamic and innovative programmes of study for all.” 

The University of Cumbria’s Institute of Health has two directorates - Health and Wellbeing, led by Dr Fiona Chatten, and Allied Health Professions including the Centre for Excellence in Paramedic Practice led by its director Associate Professor Tom Davidson.
