University of Cumbria appoints new healthcare Professors
University of Cumbria has recently appointed two new professors to help shape the future workforce for nursing, midwifery, pharmacy and allied health professions.
Professor Gill Findley, Chief Nurse and Professional Lead for Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC) recently took up an exciting new role where she will be working in partnership with the university as a visiting professor.
Professor Gill Findley said: “This is an exciting opportunity both personally and professionally. Working alongside the University of Cumbria in this honorary role and NCIC, we can develop the knowledge and skills of our future workforce, create stronger career pathways, and explore new ways of supporting staff in practice. I believe this work will bring real benefits not only for Cumbria, but also across the wider North East and North Cumbria region.”
Professor Brian Webster-Henderson OBE, Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Cumbria said:
“We and NCIC share a joint commitment as anchor institutes to improving the quality of care to the local community, shaping the knowledge, skills and curricula for our learners and practitioners, building on relationships to work as partners for the good of Cumbria.
“This visiting appointment is a recognition of Gill’s contribution to nursing and education, and we warmly welcome her to the university. She will be working alongside the Dean of the Institute of Health Professor, Karen Stansfield in developing skills, education and research that can strengthen care across the North East and North Cumbria.”
Professor Hadar Zaman also joins the university as a visiting professor, bringing a wealth of expertise in healthcare leadership, strategic transformation, and clinical governance to the institution.
With a proven track record of senior leadership roles across the NHS and Higher Education, Professor Zaman has spearheaded major change programmes in challenging economic and cultural contexts and is currently serving as Chief Pharmacist at NCIC.
Commenting on the appointment, Professor Zaman said:
“I am honoured to accept the appointment as visiting professor in Pharmacy Practice. This role offers an exciting opportunity to deepen research collaborations and enrich
learning and teaching partnerships between North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Cumbria.
“I am passionate about advancing pharmacy practice and healthcare education and research, and I look forward to contributing to the university’s strategic vision by fostering innovation, supporting student development, and strengthening professional practice. Together through a combination of workforce development and innovative research we can create a lasting impact and improve the lives of our local communities we serve.”
Professor Brian Webster-Henderson OBE, Deputy Vice Chancellor at University of Cumbria, added: “Hadar’s experience, knowledge and skills provides a great asset to the university as we continue to develop our CPD offer across health and social care.
“Specifically in relation to developing CPD for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and exploring the potential of developing a pharmacy programme at the university
“He has much to offer our students across all institutes.”
These appointments come after Dr Sarah Elliott, Associate Director of AHPs at NCIC, became a Professor of Practice earlier last year.
