The University of Cumbria’s campus at Brampton Road is delighted to host MISCELLANY, starring the MA creative practice class of 2024. MISCELLANY showcases artwork from 10 creative practitioners who are currently studying on the university’s successful and innovative MA creative practice master’s programme; featuring work from a range of creative disciplines including: ceramics, documentary film, computer game narratives, branding design, magazine illustration, typography, art installation, performance, wildlife & adventure photography.
Participating artists (with project titles) include:
- Amy Boyd: Miscellany
- Marisa Crane: Down (and Around)
- Peter Howarth: Their Nature
- Harry Howson & Hannah Roberts /or Violet Mischief: Project Violet
- Michelle Lam: Disoriental
- Richard Lynn: Best China
- Elsa Rae: Rose Magazine
- Bilyana Simova: MoVeStuCK
- Vincent Walden: Tullie Typeface
The MA creative practice programme encourages cross-disciplinary and forward-facing approaches to creative practice. The diversity of work on show, and variety of media processes and theoretical perspectives, makes for a vibrant and eclectic mix. MISCELLANY collects in one communal space live project briefs, socially orientated commentary, personal testimony, and creative collaborative ventures.
For the master’s cohort, the MISCELLANY exhibition comes at the end of a yearlong period of intense study leading to the completion of their final MA project. For many this will mark the closing of an important chapter as a student at the University of Cumbria before they embark on their professional careers within the creative industries or take on further academic study. The end-of-year master’s showcase at the Brampton Road campus is an opportunity to celebrate the vibrancy of the collected visions on show; to meet the practitioners and engage with the artworks in the context in which they were intended to be viewed and experienced.
