Skiddaw blue plaque-3
Members of the Carlisle and District Civic Trust with senior leaders of the University of Cumbria at the unveiling of a blue plaque on the university's Grade II listed Skiddaw building on its Fusehill Street campus in Carlisle. The blue plaque recognises the origins and history of the building as the Carlisle Union Workhouse and later serving as a military hospital during the First and Second World Wars. Unveiled: 8 June 2026 L-R: Civic trust members Eric Martlew (also Honorary Fellow of the university), Elsie Martlew, University of Cumbria Chief Transformation Officer Tracey Slaven, civic trust chairman Mike Little, University of Cumbria Director of Estates Colin Davies, civic trust members Roger and Emmy Sealey and John Kelsall.
