Fulfilling our mission: Supporting People, Place & Communities
The University of Cumbria doesn’t just teach, they are really making a difference to the communities in which they serve. We have had the pleasure of working with Associate Professor Dr Liz Bates, a world-leader in the field of intimate partner violence against men. Her research has helped change not only the public policy landscape, it has significantly changed the way domestic abuse services for men and their children are actually delivered in communities.
Dr Bates is highly respected by the government, statutory agencies and other academics in the field, nationally and internationally. She also regularly appears in the national media which also helps to change societal views in this taboo area. Liz is also a trustee of the ManKind Initiative charity, who are a leader in this field – helping to shape their work and enhancing their impact. She is fully supported by the university in all of this activity, and this is just one example of the applied research University of Cumbria delivers, focused on making a positive difference to people, lives and communities.
