Poets, visual and digital artists, writers, theatre and film makers and composers from across the UK are being invited to take up creative residencies in the North West.

During National Apprenticeship Week 2024, University of Cumbria is celebrating its 2,200-plus students who are studying degree apprenticeships and its collaborations with employers that are driving up higher-level skills regionally and nationally.

Vice Chancellor Professor Julie Mennell DL has welcomed new Carlisle United owners Tom and Patty Piatak to University of Cumbria’s Fusehill Street campus, which is situated less than a mile from the League One club’s Brunton Park ground.

In what is an important anniversary year for Carlisle United – 50 years since achieving promotion to the First Division for the 1974-75 season – the club has received a £95,000 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund for a project that will see them work with Tullie, Carlisle United Community Sports Trust, University of Cumbria and Cumberland Council to celebrate and preserve the club’s legacy.
